Medicare Q & A-When Can I Sign Up for Medicare

The primary qualifier for signing up for Medicare is reaching the age of sixty-five.  Upon reaching the age of sixty-five, you will be eligible to sign up for Medicare.  Now, whether signing up for Medicare is the right decision for you will depend on other factors.  The first is whether you are covered by an employer insurance plan.  If you are covered by an employer plan, you may want to defer enrollment in Medicare and maintain the employer plan.  However, you may want to enroll in Medicare if you would have lower premiums and better coverage.  It is not always a cut and dry answer, but at least you know you have the opportunity to enroll in Medicare upon reaching the age of sixty-five.
