Learn more about me, my experience, and my family.
I started my tax and financial services practice in 2014. However, in 2017 I decided to focus completely on Medicare insurance and renamed my business from Simmons Financial and Tax Services to Medicare Strategies. Since that time, I have provided a lot more support to individuals who are transitioning to Medicare and enjoyed myself a lot more. No more tax seasons!!!
I never thought I would ever work in the insurance industry. But after twenty years as a CPA and seven years as a professional chaplain, I find myself in the work that I have enjoyed the most-educating and counseling individuals and couples about Medicare insurance. It may seem like an unorthodox path to becoming an insurance agent, but I regularly use my financial and counseling skills. I am thankful to have work that is rewarding on many levels.
As a Medicare Specialist, I feel a great deal of satisfaction and enjoyment from connecting with other people and knowing that my support and expertise made a difference to them. Perhaps that is what motivates me to continue improving my ability to communicate my understanding of Medicare. Over the last eight years, I have spoken with thousands of individuals who have transitioned to Medicare. My desire is to work with individuals for many years as their Medicare and health needs change. Hopefully, I will be able to work with you as well.
My Education and Work
I have been fortunate. My parents valued education and supported me as I pursued my undergraduate degree. Although I grew up in Kentucky, I have a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Hanover College in Indiana. After working in finance for about fifteen years, I decided to take my career in another direction and enrolled at Vanderbilt University Divinity School. I graduated in 2004 and worked as a full-time chaplain for several years. Since 2014, I have assisted individuals with Medicare. The best career decision I have ever made! Along with being a licensed insurance agent in AL and TN, I still maintain my CPA license. Although I am currently inactive and do not provide any tax or accounting services
I have been married to my wife Shannon, who is a nurse practitioner, since 2007.
We have four awesome children; Bekah, Hannah, Emily and Will.
All of my daughters are now married and making their own way in the world. Bekah has even blessed us with our first grandchild Ella. Needless to say, we are crazy over her.
Our son Will is a rising 8th grader. He enjoys playing basketball and computer games.
My wife and I are very proud of our family! Even our furry children. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
